From Atlantic to Pacific

We made it to the Pacific! I'm sure you guessed that from Michael's previous post of himself lounging on the beach in 'his chair'! We decided to forego the Reagan Library because of the delays getting the RV fixed this morning... we've already talked about coming back to California (but FLYING next time) as there is SO much to see in just the LA area alone that we skipped (i.e, Disneyland!!!). We drove right by Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Burbank and Pasadena and just said 'we'll have to come back' to see that. The traffic was not too bad-- really much like Atlanta except they have a lot more interstates (or 'freeways' as they call them out here).

We stayed last night at Carpinteria State Park and had this ocean view from our RV spot:
The Pacific is COLD! Not only the water but the air-- I was concerned with finding a campground that had hookups so that we'd be sure to have air conditioning-- ha! We almost needed heat! It was really nice, though. The girls played on the beach for several hours and didn't seem to mind the cold water. The tidepools were a novelty we had never experienced before and we were thrilled to find this little guy in one this morning:
We met a lot of friendly Californians at the campground, including one guy who let the girls hold his African parrots while we were on a bench waiting to watch the sunset.
We had a wonderful time at the ocean.

Hi - this is Melissa, Michael's cousin - Barb told me about the big trip and sent the website. It's been fun "traveling" via your blog. It looks like a great family trip! Enjoy the cool temps - it's over 90 here at home (and not a dry heat)!

Hi family!
Did you see any surfers at the ocean? The water looks rough and I didn't see any sandy beach - quite a contrast from the Florida coast! What fabulous family memories you're making. Thanks for sharing with us all along the way. Several of our friends have asked for your blog address so more and more are checking on your cross-country adventure!
Love and prayers,
Mom and Dad
