We arrived in Las Vegas yesterday in the HEAT of the day (as previously mentioned!)-- our destination was Sam's Town Casino & RV Park (about 3 miles from the 'Strip'). The bonus of staying at a casino is that the rates are super cheap--I'm sure that they are hoping you'll spend lots of $$ gambling (which we didn't). They had very nice facilities and a POOL-- which thrilled the girls to no end! They spent a few hours swimming while grandma and I caught up on our laundry.

We took the girls over to Sam's Town so they could see what a casino was and while we were there, they got to watch the free 'dancing water fountain' show in the atrium of the hotel that was cool. Then, they went back to the RV while Michael and I took the shuttle to the Strip-- with the plan being to find one of the famous Las Vegas buffets to eat at (and just see the sights)... Well...let's just say that the days of the cheap buffet are apparently a thing of the past. The going rate for a buffet was $25.99 per person-- and the lines were OUT THE DOOR!??! I'm guessing most of these people must be getting them free or something-- who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for a buffet?? Probably the same people that would spend $15 for a frozen daiquiri or sit in front of a slot machine for hours on end, I guess.

We decided that while we are glad that we've seen Vegas, we really don't have much desire to ever come back. It's just not our cup of tea. I'm sure there are some good shows and the hotels were amazing but other than that, we don't see much appeal. So after our tour of the Strip-- we decided to come back to Sam's Town and check out their buffet (which was now seeming like a real bargain at only $10.99!!)-- we arrived back at 10:15, only to find that they closed that restaurant at 10!?! I thought Vegas was a 24/7 kind of place??! The counter clerk at Dunkin' Donuts (which we hit after our tasty McDonald's meal-- it was either that or Subway) said that the Strip is 24/7 but out where we were, they pretty much closed up by 10 or 11... who knew?!
So, that was the extent of our Vegas excitement-- not very, eh?! I didn't even gamble a penny! Oh well... We are sitting in a Camping World this morning getting the oil changed on the RV (a requirement after each 3500 miles driven) and will be driving out to see the Hoover Dam and then up to Zion National Park in Utah. The elevations over the next 4 days will be high again so please pray that three oldest of the adults don't suffer too many symptoms (the only one of us still in their 30's has been fine!) of altitude sickness. I'm not sure what our signal will be like for the next 2 days so if you don't see any updates, don't worry

So, Vegas wasn't really your thing, huh? :) I had to laugh about the buffet closing at 10...reminds me of trying to find dinner after consignment sales! Sounds like you are getting all you can out of your final days of 30's!!! :) Enjoy it while you can!
I only said that because I'm trying to say it as much as I can over the next 16 days!!
LOL!!!
The strip is a sight to see--at night. During the day, it's just like any other dirty downtown area.
