After 11.5 hours on the road yesterday, I have a new appreciation for truck drivers-- and I wasn't even driving for 1/2 of those hours!!! We survived one of our two longest driving days (the next one isn't until on the way home)-- I definitely don't recommend too many of these. 585 miles doesn't sound like a lot-- except that in an RV, you average about 50-55 miles per hour (counting stops), so it just takes a lot longer to get there than if you were driving in your car. But, I have to say, it is a LOT more comfortable too! We've played games, read books, done schoolwork, scrap booked and made breakfast and lunch all while driving down the road. Some day soon, I am going to take pictures of life in the RV...
Yesterday began as a fairly early morning and we pulled out of the campground by 6:30 (central time). Abbie took a pretty picture of the Oklahoma sunrise.
We got to Texas in less than an hour and stopped for a photo-op at the state line (we are often choosing the 'sure thing' of the state line as opposed to a welcome center because many states don't seem to have one). We parked on the Oklahoma side and PawPaw stayed in the RV and we all laughed when the girls said, "We went to Texas and left PawPaw in Oklahoma!"
What can I say about Texas... flat, cows, flat, fields, flat...it was pretty in a wide-open-can-see-for-miles kind of way. We made two stops in Texas--Amarillo (Wal-Mart-- to swap out the leaking air mattress) and the Cadillac Ranch just outside of Amarillo. What is the Cadillac Ranch you ask?? Simply this-- a bunch of old graffiti covered Cadillacs stuck 'head first' into the dirt in a big field. Sounds cool, huh?! Actually, it is pretty neat for some reason. The girls left their mark and Michael did his part for 104.7 the FISH:

We arrived in New Mexico-- did the pants/plane pictures, saw our first tumbleweed, yucca plant and adobe buildings and moved into Mountain Time. The time changes don't seem to be affecting us all that much until we think about what time it is at home-- as when the girls were having showers at 9 pm (normal bedtime) and Abbie said, "It's 11:00 in Georgia! We're up late!!"-- whoops! Because we're only gaining an hour every other day or so, the change hasn't been so dramatic as if we flew out here.
New Mexico has a vast and varied landscape-- desert-like areas, mountains, planes, mesas & cool red rock formations-- we spent a lot of time looking out of the RV windows today! We spent the night at a campground located on historic Route 66. Everyone fell asleep pretty quickly-- we are tired!
(Note: I'm having technical difficulties uploading pictures this morning... Off to make the girls some breakfast and I'll try again later... we have a 4 1/2 hour drive to the Grand Canyon today-- we left at 6:30-ish this morning).

A good Sunday afternoon to the Timms family! It's 3 pm here so I am assuming you have arrived at the Grand Canyon. I can't imagine how gorgeous it is in person. Don't forget the family pic! The Cadillac ranch sounded like fun - another neat pic! And I'm glad to know you didn't leave PawPaw in Oklahoma! I appreciate the girls' sense of humor. Mark & Melissa are at a movie and Dad and I are home. I took Chloe to the grocery with me, fed her lunch and rocked her to sleep! Dad is the chief cook today - ribs! We're expecting Gaga & Tata around 4 for dinner. I wrote about this and more this morning before we left for church but when I came back to check, it didn't go through so I'm hoping this message will go through.
Lots of love to all of you,
Mom and Anna and the crew from FL!
Abbie,
Make sure you don't fall in the Grand Canyon! Take care
Love, Laura Ann:)
Hey Ralph, Ann and the whole Timms clan, it's Aundrea and the Poole bunch:)All of us in Georgia are really enjoying reading about the Timms family travels!! Sounds like you are having a ton of fun, and can't wait to see the full picture album when you get back! Abbie, I LOVED hearing your recital piece, you are very talented and I can appreciate all of the practice you put into it! Emma, I know you loved the horses, and you looked like a real cowgirl riding around :)... Thought we would share the good news that William and I are now engaged! We are continuing to pray for your safe travels, and miss y'all at church.
Sounds like you are having a great trip! We love the pics. Keep em coming!!

Hey Wendy and rest of the Timms family! This is Crystal (Wessinger) Wludyga. I am following along with your trip now that Melissa sent me your blog site. We traveled the same route you are on 5 years ago. I was reading about the day you went through Texas. Did you see the HUGE cross in Pampa? I hope you have as incredible trip as we did! We actually camped (back before Bri) the entire way to Vegas, so I'm sure RVing is much more pleasant. Enjoy-this country is amazing!
